Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari issued a statement eulogising late PPP leader Salmaan Taseer on the sixth anniversary of his martyrdom. He said, “Six years ago on this day, Former Punjab governor Shaheed Salmaan Taseer laid down his life protecting the minorities and vulnerable sections of society agains
t the misuse of religion based laws and we pay homage to his memory.”

political party; it was a loss of the nation. The PPP rejected the bigots and extremists who continue
to continue to exploit religion based laws to impo
se upon the people their own version of religious edicts on the one hand and to stifle dissent on the other. The PPP would continue to oppose and resis
t the narrow and bigoted narrative of Islamic tenets by some elements to suit their
political agenda,” he further stated.
He also added, “On the sixth anniversary of Shaheed Taseer let us pledge that collectively we will preven
t the misuse of the religion based laws. May the soul of Salmaan Taseer rest in eternal peace. May the souls of all martyrs who have laid down their lives for noble causes and in fight
ing bigotry also rest in eternal peace.”
